Dogviolet – Now (Self released)

With a confident twist on 90s grunge and melodic rock London band Dogviolet gives us new single Now – once again inspired by the beauty and resilience of wildflowers

There is the beautifully melancholic chiming guitars and the lyrics which drip with ache and yearn which cast Dogviolet single Now in autumn colours. Deliciously echoing the season, and inviting you to sink in and rest a while among its polished pop-infused notes.

The beauty and resilience of wildflowers is sown throughout the Dogviolet ethos and sound, and on Now they use the imagery and symbolism sparsely but stunningly.

‘Follow the supermoon it leads the way / To waters hope to wash the pain away’

The band say of the track: “‘Now’ is about when your brain is swirling with thoughts of the past and future, leaving you stuck in a cycle of regret and nostalgia. All you want is to bring your mind back to the present so you can move forward. But sometimes you get lost in those thoughts and you need to drag yourself through the doom and gloom until you find yourself on the other side.”

You feel the call back to Incubus, Alice In Chains, Juliana Hatfield and more recently Oceanator in this sound, the influence of ’90s alt rock here for sure but with a distinct Dogviolet take. More brightly melodic than fuzzy, harmonies marrying up vocals from Nasreen Toorabally and Ella Patenall. Now is a song which stays with you so comfortingly, so wonderfully, beyond its moment.

Now by Dogviolet is out digitally now.
