Cringe is going full circle from something to be avoided or face ridicule, around to being authentic and accepting your self regardless of judgement. And France’s alt-pop trio DITTER have captured that latter moment on the eponymous title track from their new EP, Cringe Is The New Sexy.

‘I don’t mind when you stare at me / you think i am cringe but at least i am free / you gotta let things go / think over all’

DITTER say their sound is, ‘music that strikes as much at the body as it does at the heart’ and that certainly plays out on Cringe Is The New Sexy. While lyrically this is a statement of radical self-acceptance, and a clear boundary-setting for anyone who feels they can stand in judgement of another in the melody and arrangement we get off-kilter dance-floor compulsion.

With dirty, fuzzy bass set against squall vocals, playful use of melodic space and stop-start rhythms it’s hard not to become the chorusline, singing back the refrain as you spin in liberation.

A brilliant sub-3 minute blast of slightly avant-garde alt-pop which brings the joy and celebration to resisting conformity.

Cringe Is The New Sexy by DITTER is out digitally now and as part of an EP of the same title available on vinyl, CD and digital.
