Roll up, roll up, all the fun of the musical fair is here on Love Eggtually, the eponymous title track from Newcastle indiepop five-piece Baker Island‘s new EP.
Don’t be fooled by the slow start, sliding past you like a haunted ice cream van. The ba-ba-ba backing vocals foreshadow what’s to come, the layers of melody whirr, and then…
‘I travel all around the world / I’m butchery in Panama / You’re the gutter, we’re the stars’
Jump aboard the carousel and watch the world spin out of view as the track kicks up several notches. There’s layers of guitar and keys, a spiralling undertone offsetting the end-of-the-night storytime vocal. There’s echoes of ’60s psych, ’80s twee indiepop, ’90s slacker-rock and an altogether rich yet still scrappy sound.
Love Eggtually is as clever, fun and full of heart as it is unsettling.

And while the title of the single is a play on that of one film, the video pays homage to iconic cinema in a very different way.
Love Eggtually from Baker Island is out now digitally. It is from an EP of the same name, also out on CD and digitally now.
