TWAT UNION – Tiny Shorts (Alcopop! Records)
The Theatre Workers and Television Union (TWAT UNION), or The Twats if we’re being informal, are back with another biting slice of feminist indie rock full of provacative humour and growling riffs as they remind those that need reminding that what a woman wears is not an invitation to be disrespectful

Following on from their EP Don’t Look It In The Eye, released in April 2025, feminist theatre-punks TWAT UNION are giving the male gaze the middle finger with new single Tiny Shorts.
With growling riffs as predatory as the misogyny activated by the sight of bare legs, and sneering spoken verses full of disdain for the disrespect outfit choices bring Tiny Shorts centres the experience of women, addresses it head on with provocative humour, and sets it to bold indie rock riffage.
As the single stomps along it rejects the male gaze and lyrically it reverses the reductionism going on when a woman is cat-called. The lyrics and vocal delivery is the core element here but there’s also percussive shimmer, subtle fuzz to the guitars, and even delightful little melodic call outs to the words. A winner on every front.
‘Just because I’m baring my legs / Doesn’t mean I want to have sex / Well, not with you anyway’
The band said the track, “gives a middle finger to all the cat calling and demeaning behaviour we receive if we choose to wear something that makes US feel good. Women should be able to wear whatever the hell they want, let it all hang out, and not be mistreated or disrespected. The song is also a pushback against the assumptions that are made about people based on the clothes they choose to wear. If you want to wear tiny shorts that make your bum look amazing while you have thoughts as big as your shorts are small—you can. It’s not a choice you have to make.”
TWAT UNION are known for their live performances – part gig, part feminist theatre performance where you are as likely to see line dancing as you are experience the feral release of rage, and joy as an act of resistance. Get to a show as soon as you can – and in the meantime play this one loud.
