Nell Davies

Corwall-based singer-songwriter Nell Davies is a relative newcomer to music making having first picked up a guitar in lockdown, having been inspired by Viv Albertine’s autobiography. You wouldn’t know it though as latest single Never Ever Ever is hugely melodic and catchy, with sharp lyrics delivered with wit.

It is, she says, “a cathartic and sarcastic alt-rock track about reclaiming boundaries after a toxic relationship” and with the warm but saw-edged tones of The Buzzcocks and the wit of They Might Be Giants it’s an absolute hit. It’s a track with a full sound, with big builds to shiny shimmery choruses and just as much Riot Grrrl sovereignty and punk snarl to push against the bubblegum pop.

‘Now you’re asking how I’ve been / As if we’re starting off again / have you forgotten we’re not friends?’

She records in an old pigsty which she describes as “nicer than it sounds, but not much” the video too made use of the rural setting in West Cornwall. Filmed in an old barn by the solidly DIY artist, it ended up with a negative budget when she found £91 in scrap metal ahead of the shoot.

Never Ever Ever is taken from EP The End Of The World Or Whatever, which was released in May 2025. The collection marks a maturing of Davies’ sound, and a songwriter who has mastered the mechanics of the craft but kept the authentic emotion and provocative humour while doing so.

Never Ever Ever by Nell Davies is out digitally now. It features on EP The End Of The World Or Whatever available digitally and on CD via Bandcamp.
