Quietly crafted over the last 6 years the long wait for new music from itoldyouiwouldeatyou is about to be richly rewarded with the release of EP We Were Having Such A Nice Day when it drops this Friday, 28 November 2025. They’ve whetted the appetite by sharing a second track from it – That’s What – and it’s an absolutely incredible slab of songwriting prowess.
Inventive and confident That’s What builds from many layers: shimmering guitars and direct vocals, echoing backing vocals spookily panning gives somewhat supernatural connectedness. And around the 3 minute mark, just when most tracks would reach their conclusion, That’s What launches itself into a spun-out, howling instrumental. Here the guitars and effects take the centre, with Metal-esque runs, fuzzy riffs, and an altogether melody that strikes you square on in the chest.
Both parts work individually but together they make That’s What, and this band, absolutely magnificent.
‘It’s so good to / Leave you in the lull / Baptised and sure and true’
Sharing the track on social media the band said, “This one is a Maeve (Westall. Bass, guitar, drums) joint, entirely constructed in our makeshift studio hole with too many pedals. We had fun making it.”
The band previously shared track Wonderful Life, Pt.1 from the EP. Full of introspection, social commentary, and post-emo melody it questions the idea of a benevolent patriarch. Speaking about the track vocalist Joey Ashworth said, “If you’ve seen us live, you’ve heard this song in one form or another. It’s been rewritten and rearranged through so many iterations of this band. It’s about our fathers and the culture that raised them, and how care and masculinity can exist within or against that.”
The six-track EP is out tomorrow (28 November) and the band say this is just the start of a slow release of the music they’ve been crafting over the last few years, meaning despite the world being on fire there is at least this to look forward.
That’s What by itoldyouiwouldeatyou is out digitally now. It comes from EP We Were Having Such A Nice Day, out digitally on Full Force Thought and on limited edition cassette via Fragile Records on 28 November 2025.
