Theatrical, unsettling, inventive and melodic London four-piece art rockers Wednesday’s Child have announced a forthcoming EP with the release of remarkable single KNEES.
Easing in gently with warm chimes of guitar and hazy folk-type vocals, the song soon heads in a very interesting direction with a quick-stepping rhythm and a nod toward mariachi in the melody. The vocals become sharper-edged and keening as they reflect the innocence-lost of the lyrics, and post-punk, ’90s indie and folk provide the layers for this exciting and enticing art rock single.
‘Please put me on my Knees / dirty from what I made / She touched herself after she prayed / For an answer’
The band said of KNEES, “The story started out as being a very literal retelling of the fallout from a short-lived romance, but soon turned into more of an existential conundrum… the tension between childhood nostalgia, and a rebellion against it. Even though we didn’t grow up together, within the band we are creating a second childhood.”
They went on to share in an interview with Babystep Magazine, “There’s also a lot in there about finding empowerment through standing your ground, even when someone else is diminishing your desires; holding on long enough to find your people, your tribe, who look after and love you.”
KNEES introduces the next era for the band, and the EP from which its taken All Dressed Up will be with at the start of February next year.
KNEES by Wednesday’s Child is out digitally now. EP All Dressed Up is out 6 February 2026.
