The Just Joans – Limpet (Fika Recordings)
Seminal indiepop band The Just Joans have shared a Northern Soul tinged single Limpet ahead of the release of a new album, Romantic Visions Of Scotland, due January 2026 on Fika Recordings.

With a beautifully comforting and familiar Northern Soul motif, and a get-up-and-dance indiepop shimmer The Just Joans new single Limpet is a bittersweet exploration of parenthood and comes ahead of their fifth studio album Romantic Visions Of Scotland, set for release in January 2026.
The track smooths the edges off the band’s DIY indiepop sound and shines with a beautiful blend of brass, piano, and stomping rhythm to evoke early Belle and Sebastian‘s orchestral pop as it does the earnestness-wrapped-in-a-fun-melody of many a 60s girl group.
‘He loves me like a limpet / And he won’t give me a minute’
David Pope, half of the sibling songwriting partnership that is The Just Joans, said, “I wrote Limpet shortly after my son was born. I wanted to write something that captured the wonderful messiness of life with a newborn, but also touched upon some of the stuff that you miss out on (mainly getting drunk and snogging strangers). It also seemed to make sense to try and write the song from a female perspective, for whom the all consuming nature of the experience is altogether more oppressive.”
The vocals of Katie Pope further bring the subject-matter-from-a-female-perspective to the fore, fully embodying the pioneer feeling of being a new parent even though you know you’re not the first to feel the feels. As rich as the instrumentation is so too is the juxtaposition of resisting and submitting to the demands of parenthood, loving completely and yet also learning how to love for this little stranger in your life.
Limpet builds to a crescendo, brass flourishes around the male/female vocal repeating ‘Everyday is the longest day’ before the piano leads us out. With a newborn, indeed the days are long, but with parenthood the years are short and The Just Joans capture that perfectly and prettily on what is already sounding like a classic indiepop track.
