Setting folklore to experimental electronica Hen Ogledd have delivered a confronting and somewhat unsettling, yet utterly fascinating track in Clara. It comes from the collaborative art projects forthcoming, and described as ‘confounding’, third album DISCOMBOBULATED, due out next month.
With Clara, the collective set pastoral openess against the underground overground industrialisation. The pull to return to when today’s folklore was merely the daily news is snapped by confronting sounds, an unseen threat making safety seem as unknowable as that conjured past.
If sound-making with something other than standard instrumentation turns you off, then this won’t be for you. There’s the recording of a projector, and horse snorts alongside the drums, percussion, saxophone and clarinet. However, if you’re open to viewing a super-reality of surrealist visuals and sound then Clara, and the work of Hen Ogledd beyond, is something you’re going to need to spend some time with.

The video for Clara is directed by James Hankins and shows Clara riding through a psychedelic and surreal journey of medieval texts, Alltwalis, carrot fingers alongside Knightmare, Atari and other 90s computer game imagery.
Clara by Hen Ogledd is out digitally now. Their second album DISCOMBOBULATED is due out on Weird World on 20 February 2026.
