I Doris by Keira Anee

At the vanguard of menopause-core Loud Women house band I, Doris are giving us a rally call and sing-a-long anthem with the release of their iconic set-opener Superduperdoris.

At its heart is the legendary Pledge of Doris, a moment fans around the world have taken in unison with the band at the start of shows – pledging to undertake small, kind acts, from giving up a seat on the bus to, crucially, not voting for fascists. The live pledge is never the same twice, shifting with time, place, audience, and the hormonal state of the Doris leading it that day – but now it’s finally been captured on record.

About the release the band said, Superduperdoris is who we are in under three minutes. It’s loud, it’s fun, it’s sincere, and it asks very little of you – just be kind, look out for each other, and absolutely do not vote for fascists. Also: please buy a tea towel.”

With plenty of handclaps, a weaving rock n roll guitar line, both gang and call and response vocals, plus some disco-echoing spell-outs Superduperdoris does exactly what it’s intended to: get the energy up and garner commitment to the collective power we can find in music. It’s a bop, and one that marries gentle humour with fierce feminist politics to make Dorises of us all.
