Heavenly

With a video giving A-ha Take On Me vibes indiepop icons Heavenly lead us toward the release of their first album in nearly 30 years with single Scene Stealing.

Following on from previous single Excuse Me, Scene Stealing has dreamy 1950s rock n roll guitar with just a touch of disco to the beat. And while it might entice you onto the dancefloor there’s a serious message within – classic Heavenly.

Of the track the band say, “Scene Stealing is sweet, upbeat and danceable, but has a sting in its tail. Are online influencer demigods any more respectful of the women and girls who follow them than the dodgy men who Heavenly took aim at back in the riot grrrl punk days of Attagirl? (Have a guess…)”

Read an exclusive interview with Heavenly in issue 1 of Popoptica Zine

There is an exclusive, print-only, interview with Heavenly in issue 1 of Popoptica zine – order your copy here.

In the interview we talk favourite tracks, making new music and songwriting inspiration, getting ready for such an extensive tour and how community is so important to independent bands and labels. We also talked about where music coverage fits into this.

Amelia Fletcher said, “I think zines are still reasonably important for people of our age. There is so much music out there that you end up relying on a reasonably small number of people you trust to tell you about the good stuff. Online zines are still important for that. So are radio shows.”

The first run of Popoptica 001 sold out within 3 days, the second run is half gone, so if you want to support the independent music press PLUS read the rest of the interview with Heavenly as well as print-exclusive interviews with Slime City, The Empty Page, and An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump PLUS print-exclusive features on Tiger Island, YAKKIE, Chaffinch, Pink Opaque, CURRLS, Strange Loop PLUS print-exclusive reviews of recent releases – order your copy here.
