Hailed as ‘the Jonathan Richman of our times’ Charley Stone gives us another sweet, sassy and catchy single with Forever Your Love, and adding extra spice with an intriguing suggestion it is the mid-piece in a storytelling trilogy of tracks.

Sharing the release on social media Stone said, “It is Valentine’s Day, and the second song in the loose trilogy has landed. The alien plant isn’t in a situationship this time. The cat is now totally unobtainable. And yet the Yearn continues on, endlessly. Until one day a crack appears in the ceiling and… oh you’ll have to wait until May 1st to find out.”

‘Forever your love makes me tremble inside / Forever your love’s got me high / Forever your love feeds the ache in my side’

This ‘loose trilogy’ began last October with the release of I’ve Gotta Know, of which we said it was, “the duality of playing it cool while craving commitment. It hangs in that moment where everything could soar, or it could wither. It is the rush of possibilities in the finest indiepop setting.” And Forever Your Love picks up as the perfect follow on.

With steady and warm garage-rock rhythms underpinning spiralling and spun out guitar-lines, harmonised ooh-oo-wooh-oo-woo-oo-ooh to punctuate each stanza, sung in Stone’s distinctive voice. This is a dreamy track where yearning is equal parts frustration and the strange satisfaction of delayed gratification. There’s something of mid-period solo Graham Coxon in the vulnerability and desire, the alternating guitar tones and yet that echo is faint and this track, this sound, this feeling is owned by Stone entirely.

It is in the looping fade-out that we face the endless repeating nature of seeking love and connection, and take comfort that if not this love then another. The final piece of this trilogy is being teased for early May, and until then we’ll be holding our hearts and hopes gentle to the sound of Forever Your Love.

Forever Your Love by Charley Stone is out digitally now on Bandcamp and selected streaming services.
