Hex Poseur

Hitting hard from the first note The Alpha, the most recent single from Nottingham’s Hex Poseur, brings big energy as it takes aim at toxic masculinity while blending metal influences into the indie rock sound.

As the band’s first single since 2024 it’s a blisteringly good return statement. With grinding industrially-heavy riffs, and an ominous power even when sludgy the track is as laden with vulnerability as it is with mockery of the ‘alpha male’ concept. The Alpha stalks you, domineering and self-assured.

About the track Harri Bettsworth said, “In the song, I take the role of the ‘alpha male’, and there’s a bit of comedy about that, as I’m obviously not actually male or alpha. And that’s really the point – the alpha male is a ridiculous concept, and demeaning to both men and women.”

The Alpha is relentless, heavy, riffage which mirrors the persistent play-out of entitlement shown by those who have become the subject here. And unlike the subject who expect unquestioning respect without any reason for it, with The Alpha Hex Poseur have demonstrated why they are deserving: devastatingly good both sonically and lyrically.

The Alpha by Hex Poseur is out digitally now.
