Annie Dressner by Simon Weller

Lyrically and melodically evoking the indie rock of the ’90s Annie Dressner has shared latest single Dumb Boy as she heads out on an extensive UK tour with Scottish singer-songwriter Kris Drever.

Dumb Boy distills heartbreak and the frustration of should-have-known-better into wonderfully bittersweet three-and-a-half minutes of shimmery indiepop. With a NYC twang to her vocal, and a lessons-learnt keening-edge to the guitar the track sits squarely between Upset and Suzanne Vega.

‘Meet ups, drinking, really deep thinking / Awkward hellos and messy goodbyes’

About the track Dressner said, “It’s an anthem for those who wore their hearts on their sleeves, and perhaps should not have. Those who gave away more than was worth giving. It’s a song that makes you think about your own self-worth and how much you should put up with – learn to love yourself before some ‘dumb boy in a band.'”

With an already deep back catalogue to explore or revisit it makes it no less exciting that Dressner is teasing her fifth album being on the way. If Dumb Boy is anything to go by we’re in for a real treat.

Dumb Boy by Annie Dressner is out digitally now.
