If there’s one thing Slime City do really well it is fast, spiky, hook-laden nerd rock. If there is another it is wryly observed social commentary. New track Trigger The Dads showcases it all.

Taking aim at the algorithmically manipulated this is a track, typical of this band, which sets charismatic yet scathing lyrics to absolutely massive melodic riffs. It feels as if it is on the cusp of imploding throughout the three-and-a-half minutes, chasing you down as synths shoot by, and rhythms trigger (not only the dads but also) your dance response.

‘You did what the algorithm / Told you to do / And the algorithm / Took advantage of you’

This is the second track to be released from the forthcoming second album, National Record Of Achievement. Perfectly titled to give those of us of a certain age a long pour of nostalgia with a ‘this wasn’t the future we were promised’ chaser the tracks they’ve given us so far from it show this is likely to be just as brilliant a long player as their first (2023’s Death Club).

And like much of that debut this track calls out the ridiculous while sounding out a love-hate affair with internet culture. It takes it at pace, gang vocals building to a frenzy, guitar punching the realisation into you that you’ve got it bad: Slime City are your new favourite band and Trigger The Dads is everything the modern underground anthem should be.

Trigger The Dads by Slime City is out digitally now. Their second album National Record of Achievement is out on 21 November 2025 on vinyl, CD and digital.
