‘I’m going for a walk across the moors, I might not be back’ sings Lande Hekt on Favourite Pair Of Shoes, the first single shared from forthcoming album Lucky Now.
It’s a line drenched in ambiguity: this could be submission to despondency or the winning move against it; it could be a physical disappearance into that vast landscape, or it could be leaving emotions and experience behind to return renewed, a different person when you come back.
“Despite the lines that lean towards despair, I think this is quite a hopeful song,” Hekt explains. “It’s about rising out of a pit of hopelessness and doing something really positive.”
Melodically that hope rings out in chiming guitars, and the layered vocals of Hekt and longtime collaborator Samuel Bedford. Jangling indiepop drifts into hazy dreampop and a video shot on Dartmoor (by David Goodchild), with Hekt playfully exploring a stone circle, brings in the a mischievous folkloric element to the track.
The gentle set out of big emotions evokes Owl & Mouse, and the sparkling guitar-led melody and diffused percussion lead us toward The Chills. Comparisons aside Favourite Pair Of Shoes is unmistakably Lande Hekt, at her most self-assured and giving us glimmers to hold on to when the world around us and inside us is feeling grim.
Favourite Pair Of Shoes by Lande Hekt is out now digitally. It is the first track to be shared from album Lucky Now which is released on vinyl and digital on 30 January 2026 on Tapete Records.
