Opening with buzz, feedback and anticipatory percussive shimmer YAKKIE have delivered their second release in the shape of Rabbit’s Got The Gun, alongside the announcement of their debut album heading our way in February 2026.
When the track kicks in we get a 3-minute onslaught of chantable lyrics, spat out and laden with anger and resolve, set to spiralling guitar riffs and gut-punch rhythm. There’s no way this isn’t instigating a circle pit when played live, and brings in as much Alice In Chains, Skunk Anansie and Nova Twins as it does blast pure punk energy your way.
‘WE LAY IN WAIT ‘TIL YOU MAKE A MISTAKE’
Sharing that Rabbit’s Got The Gun is a song everyone has been loving at their live shows the band also said, “It’s an uncompromising rager about resistance which we recorded in one live take. The breakdown is really dirty and it’s dedicated to Luigi Mangione, who is actually in court this week! #FreeLuigi!”
That dedication to Luigi Mangione, accused of killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in December 2024, amplifies not only the song’s subject matter – the oppressed will rise and seize power – but speaks to the issues led approach in the band. This is no jump onto media bandwagons but comes from a place of authenticity and a commitment to fight for social justice.
YAKKIE are here and embodying punk on every front: anti-establishment, using their music and platform to highlight issues and provide commentary, and leaning in to the DIY spirit all fuelled with a raw, primal energy. This is great music – heavy AF, deeply melodic, intelligent and supremely catchy – but more than that, it’s exactly the soundtrack we need for the downfall of late stage capitalism.
Rabbit’s Got The Gun by YAKKIE is out now digitally. The debut album Kill The Cop Inside Your Head is out 11 February 2026 and pre-orders for vinyl, CD, digital and bundles are open now via Bandcamp.
