As certain as the seasons are to cycle round, so to is the annual beauty-industry cash in through shaming women about their bodies. The messaging that the only acceptable body is the one you can’t attain ramps up as the temperature rises, then slinks back to subversive background levels in the cooler months by reminding us ‘summer bodies are made in winter’. Its a constant barrage meant to keep women at war with their bodies, to feel not good enough whatever they’ve got.

Thankfully menopause icons I, Doris are here with their surf-soaked rebel cry with latest single Beach Body Ready. A call-and-response anthem of radical acceptance, and joy as an act of rebellion. And as if that wasn’t enough they’ve also dropped it in French (Corps De Plage Prêt).

‘My legs are pasty / I ate all the pies / bush escaping / Down my thighs / Come on Doris, keep it steady / Everybody’s beach body ready’

The band said, “We wanted to make a song that reminds everyone their body is already beach-ready — no crash diets, no filters, just you and your fabulous self. And why French? Because everything sounds cooler in French… even cellulite.”

With garage-surf guitars, gentle harmonies, spoken word motivational lyrics, and some great call and response. This track – in either language – is the perfect encapsulation of loving ourselves as an act of rebellion. And it will have you singing and bopping along while you give the middle finger to the patriarchy to boot.

Beach Body Ready / Corps De Plage Prêt is out digitally now.
