Spite! Spite! Spite! is perhaps the perfect Breakup Haircut song. That could be the full review but let me elaborate…

It’s the final single to be released ahead of the band’s second album No Worries If Not! Following on from The Algorithm Is Trying To Kill Me, and I’m Okay (I Lied) it sets the scene for a collection which is high energy and wryly expressed emotions. The scrappy DIY vibes of their earlier releases is still at the heart but we’re hearing a band gaining confidence, polishing the edges, and truly growing.

As a single this is an absolute joy of a song. Two and a half minutes of racing thoughts and melody, which can soundtrack a solo dance around the kitchen as easily as it can a jostling frontline at the indie show. They pack in story-telling, time-changes, defiance and introspection, whoa-whoa-whoas and percussive punctuation without this ever feeling overloaded or confused. If you like Martha or Upset, Breakup Haircut will hit your spot with this one.

‘I can’t look back in anger / no I can’t look back at all / I’m jumping up and down all night just to have control’

The band said the track is, “Our take on a jangly, indie-pop anthem, but with an edge. It’s a cathartic, punchy track about rising above someone who hurt you, made for shouting along to if you wish to join us in that.”

We recomend getting Spite! Spite! Spite! on repeat while you wait to get your ears on the album.

Spite! Spite! Spite! by Breakup Haircut is out now digitally. It is taken from forthcoming album No Worries If Not! out on vinyl, CD and digital on 28 November 2025 via INH Records.
