Popoptica 001: announcing the first issue of a new print music publication
Popoptica 001 is a new quarterly music print publication with the heart of a zine, beating hard for the memory of the music press we’ve lost. Like the site we cover the best of independent and DIY music and other artistic communities.
It’s also an invitation to slow down and immerse yourself in words in music, even if only for the time it takes to drink a cup of tea.

In Popoptica 001
Interviews with:
- seminal indiepop band Heavenly
- Glasgow nerd rockers Slime City
- independent icons The Empty Page
- returning art band An Experiment On A Bird In The Air Pump
Introducing you to:
- mathrock from Chaffinch
- indierock from Tiger Island
- electronica from Strange Loop
- punk from YAKKIE
- electropop from Pink Opaque
- and glam-yet-grungy-rock from CURRLS
Plus reviews (of albums and EPs you can already get your ears on) and a make-it-yourself mixtape tracklisting.
Order your copy
Everything featured in Popoptica 001 is exclusive to print and while we’ll keep covering these bands on the website we have no plans to make any of the content from the zine available online.
You can order your copy of Popoptica 001 via the Reckless Yes Bandcamp page and we’ll post it out to you as soon as its available.
If you are a promoter, record shop, or part of the DIY music community in some other way and would like a few copies to sell on via your venue or event please drop Sarah a message via socials to discuss.
Popoptica 002 – already?
Indeed. Popoptica 002 is due around the end of March 2026 – please follow us on socials and check our daily posts online for news of who is to be featured and when you can order your copy.
Like what Popoptica do?
We are fully self-funded with no paying advertisers or sponsors. So, if you have enjoyed reading Popoptica online you can buy us a virtual coffee via Ko-fi – every donation helps us to do what we do. Obviously buying Popoptica in print helps us cover those costs and keep going.
We’d love it if you shared on social media too – find us on:
