Shooting anger straight through the veins of their power-pop London’s Fightmilk have opened up a new chapter with the release of single Sounds Like A You Problem. Their first single (well, not forgetting this festive number) since their 2024 album No Souvenirs they share it ahead of a sold out show at The Lexington as part of label Fika Recordings iconic Winter Sprinter series.

With off-kilter guitar lines under the heavy AF main riffs, and ticking time-bomb percussion the rightful rage has an echo of Bjork‘s uncompromising and storming sovereignty on Army of Me, of Skunk Anansie‘s big vocals and industrial-tinged grunge, YAKKIE‘s heavy feminist punk, and PJ Harvey‘s unapologetic raw emotion.

‘Sleeping on eggshells / I know too much / Behind your locked door / Man on the run’

About the song singer Lily Rae said, “This is taken directly from my experience at the hands of a former partner. Whilst I’ve written about it in other songs, this is the first time I’ve addressed it this head-on.

“It’s such a common experience for so many people, especially women, that I wanted it to feel recognisable and relatable to anyone who’s gone through the same thing. It’s terrifying and suffocating at the time, but then the aftermath is just anger and later pity. You spend the whole relationship wondering what you could do better and then once you’re free of it you realise the way someone treats you was never your fault, or your problem, at all.”

While this isn’t a complete step away from their established sound, it does feel like an evolution. A maelstrom of screamed-through instrumentation where every detail is visceral and clear, guitarist Alex Wisgard said, “When we started playing Sounds Like A You Problem live, Lily used to yell “I’m sorry” over the middle 8, and I’m glad she doesn’t anymore. This song is many things; apologetic isn’t one of them.”
