On latest single Only One Of Me Around Laura Fell once again shows her mastery of vulnerability, self-awareness and incredible musicianship.
Seemingly reflecting on the loneliness which can come with standing in your uniqueness, and the pull of self-betrayal to be part of something there is a pastoral folk-guitar line gently tripping along throughout as washes of sound build before we’re left with the fuzzy reverb forcing us to confront our own thoughts for the last 30 seconds or so.
With an instantly recognisable timbre to her vocal, Fell is a friend kindly but honestly guiding us while melodically it seems butterflies flutter, a meadow blooms, and we’re the ones eclipsing our own sun.
The track leads us further toward EP All The Work To Keep At Bay which is due in March, and to which we were introduced with single Earthworm last November. Fell seems to have found a natural rhythm to her releases as we also had EPs in 2025 and 2024 (Talk It All Apart and At Least I Tried) following a hiatus after her 2020 debut album Safe From Me. Of this debut we enthused it was a record of ‘intelligent, orchestrated alt-pop of the finest order, and quite astonishingly fully formed and distinctly visioned for an artist early in their career.’
Now working with Mercury Prize-winning producer Mike Lindsey (Tunng, LUMP, Speech Debelle, Anna B Savage) we’re excited to hear the new EP in full, while being more than happy to linger in the company of Only One Of Me Around for a time.
