New-band-of-long-time-scenesters Railcard formed in 2025 when Rachel Love (Dolly Mixture), Ian Button (Papernut Cambridge, The Penrose Web) and Peter Momtchiloff (Heavenly, Would-be-goods) discovered they were all born within weeks of each other back in 1962. They relaxed the age limit to bring in trumpeter Allison Thompson and together they are making modern gentle dreampop meets Motown dancefloor indiepop classics.
With the collecting together of their 3 EPs so far they’re also sharing a lyric video for Day Dream – a perfect introduction to their sound. Bringing in elements from their other music projects, there’s an upbeat bounce and shimmer to the rhythm, a jangle to the guitar and a vocals which manage to be perfectly balanced between dream-like haze and crystalline clarity. It’s the sort of song you want to sit down and have a cup of tea with, and then push everything aside and shimmy around the kitchen as the melody fully takes hold.
They say, “Railcard have synthesised some of the best pop of the last seventy years and made it sound as fresh as the first Dolly Mixture single” and they’re not wrong – beautiful psych-infused indie pop that is well worth your time.
Day Dream by Railcard is out digitally now. The self-titled collection of their 3 EPS is out via Skep Wax and Slumberland now and the labels will release an album of new tracks later in 2026.
