In astronomy, a mini moon is a small asteroid that briefly gets captured by the Earth’s gravitational pull before hurtling back out into space. In the single carrying the same name from Matching Outfits, it’s a metaphor for front woman Linnea Mårtensson’s search for artistic and romantic inspiration: fleeting, just out of reach.
The international trio (members are from Sweden, USA and UK but met and are based in Berlin) channel the jangle and introspection of C86 with the harmonies and sass of ’60s girl groups with Mini Moon. Working through the excitement of possibility and the realisation that there is often an expectation of transaction to connection the gentle melody bobs along underneath, brightening and softening a song which holds a burden lyrically.

The single is backed with b-side Leave It, a piano-led twin to Mini Moon. Here, political differences sour a relationship and it is the separation, rather than the connection, which is longed for. The temp-changes fast, the vocals crack and sharply layer as the percussion becomes briefly chaotic before all is drawn in and contained once moon. It’s raw, beautiful, and painful.
The singles follow the 2025 release of second album Ditch Me, which intimately reflected the year after a break up. Those themes follow in the latest tracks but with Mini Moon especially we are moving on. There is caution and courage, hope and disappointmment in looking for new connections while honouring the boundaries you set for yourself, whether that is in platonic, romantic, or creative relationships. And it does that while being an absolute shimmy-your-shoulders-while-your-feelings-shake-your-core indiepop bop.
