Following the release of their second album, The Shape Of Things, on INH Records in May 2026 London garage rockers Bugeye has shared feminist single This Is What I Want.
Sharing a sonic signature with the electroclash of the second Elastica album and Peaches the track is born of frustration with the band saying it is “a song to all those men who think they know what women want… you don’t.”
‘Cause I’m not a doll or something you can fold / I’m not polished by design to erase / ‘Cause I’m not a doll with a set of controls’
Sharing the track on Instagram the band further described the experiences behind it, “This Is What I Want is our response. It’s a song born out of frustration, but also solidarity. If you’ve ever felt exhausted by sexism, angry at the rise in misogyny, or determined to push back, this one’s for you.
“Every day there’s another headline. Another story of violence against women. Another reminder that sexism and misogyny aren’t things of the past, they’re getting louder, more visible, and more dangerous.
“We’re tired of being told to ignore it. Tired of being expected to stay quiet. Tired of women being treated as if our anger is the problem instead of the hatred we face”
With a debut album that was decades in the making and then dropped just as the pandemic took hold Bugeye has shown they are a band with real resilience as well as riffs as big as the issues at the heart of their songs.
This Is What I Want by Bugeye is out digitally now. It is taken from recent album The Shape Of Things available digitally, and on CD and vinyl via INH Records.
