Power-twee lesbian punk-pop duo Trash Panda Go Kart are busy shaping their new album but made time to share stand-alone single Maybe Don’t.
The band share the track is a reworking of one from their first album, which over the years has got faster and louder. They say, “Maybe Don’t is an anti-capitalist screed and a protection spell (these things are mutually re-enforcing!) and also two excellent words to have in your pocket when someone gets all up in yer shit.”
‘I don’t need you to be true / I just need you to be you / Try too hard to get your way / And all your love will fade away’
Bursting with chaotic rock energy, and an undertow melody that compels you to consider hand jiving, Maybe Don’t has plenty of sharpness to the lyrics. The fight-back against everything doesn’t have to be poe-faced and serious, it can be wild-music-as-magic FUN. This track – this band – consistently rides that vibe.
With a couple of covers shared earlier in the summer (The Muppets‘ The Rainbow Connection, and Garbage‘s Happy When It Rains) the Seattle duo are putting finishing touches to their third studio album and we can’t wait. Trash Panda Go Kart embody joy as an act of resistence with the scrappy garage rock they’re putting out – Maybe Don’t is another fine pull from their catalogue.
Maybe Don’t by Trash Panda Go Kart is out digitally now. A new full length album is on the way.
